Huma Qureshi Takes the Lead, Showcasing Ascension with Wisdom in 'Maharani 3'

The teaser for the third season of the political series 'Maharani,' starring Huma Qureshi, was unveiled on Tuesday. The teaser features Huma's character Rani Bharti celebrating her success in clearing intermediate examinations and distributing sweets in prison. Rani Bharti's powerful narrative in the teaser revolves around her wielding the weapon of education.

In the teaser, Rani Bharti declares, "Even as a school dropout, I gave all of you a tough time. Once I graduate, what will happen to all of you?" The show depicts Rani Bharti as the wife of Bihar's Chief Minister Bheema Bharti, played by Sohum Shah. The series is partly inspired by real-life incidents in Bihar in the 1990s, including Lalu Prasad's resignation as chief minister due to the fodder scam and the subsequent endorsement of his homemaker wife Rabri Devi as his successor.

Season one of 'Maharani' covered the period from 1995 to 1999 and explored real-life events and characters such as the Ranvir Sena, left-wing extremism, and the Fodder Scam. It portrayed Rani Bharti's unexpected ascension to power after her husband Bheema Bharti was shot. Season two delved into Bheema running a proxy government from prison, with Chief Minister Rani facing accusations of misgovernance and Bihar grappling with anti-incumbency, jungle raj, and corruption.

'Maharani 3' is produced by Naren Kumar and Dimple Kharbanda, created by Subhash Kapoor, and directed by Saurabh Bhave. The series, featuring Huma Qureshi, Amit Sial, Vineet Kumar, Pramod Pathak, Kani Kusruti, Anuja Sathe, Sushil Pandey, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and Sohum Shah in key roles, is set to stream on Sony LIV soon.
