Actor Emraan Hashmi celebrated his 46th birthday on Monday by making an official announcement regarding the much-awaited sequel of Awarapan, which is all set to release on April 3, 2026.
In an emotional post, Emraan broke the news to his fans and wrote, "Bas mujhe kuch aur der zinda rakh… #Awarapan2 in cinemas, 3rd April 2026. #Awarapan2 @Visheshb7 @Visheshfilms #MukeshBhatt #VisheshFilms."
Awarapan 2 is dedicated to the devoted fans of the original, honoring the character of Shivam, essayed by Emraan, and his steadfast commitment.
The sequel once again sees Emraan joining forces with Vishesh Films for the theatrical run, with Nitin Kakkar helming the project and Bilal Siddiqui writing the script. Directed by Vishesh Bhatt, the film will showcase powerful action, engrossing emotions, irreversible moments, and the legendary music that turned Awarapan into a cult film.
This Emraan Hashmi-Vishesh Films association has given way to hit films over the years, such as Jannat, Murder, Raaz, Gangster, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, and Awarapan.
Now in pre-production, Awarapan 2 is moving towards shooting and is likely to repeat the same gritty and emotional hold that contributed to the success of the original film.
The 2007 original Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, was an uncredited remake of the South Korean movie A Bittersweet Life. The action-crime film featured Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, and Ashutosh Rana. Emraan's Shivam Pandit, a gangster, is assigned by his boss Bharat Malik to look after Reema, Malik's clandestine Pakistani mistress, a storyline that leads to high drama.
Recently, Emraan Hashmi was seen in the thriller Tiger 3 (2023), featuring Salman Khan. Maneesh Sharma-directed Tiger 3 is the fifth film in the YRF Spy Universe and is a sequel to Ek Tha Tiger and Tiger Zinda Hai, where Tiger and Zoya fight against a rogue ISI agent, Aatish Rehman, who has evil plans against India.
