Pop star Charli XCX pleaded with fans at a Sao Paulo nightclub to stop a disparaging Taylor Swift chant during her DJ set. The singer ventured onto Instagram to lament her situation, saying, "Can the people who do this please stop. Online or at my shows. It is the opposite of what I want, and it disturbs me that any one would think there is room for this in this community. I am not going to tolerate this."
The incident follows previous tensions between Charli XCX's and Taylor Swift's fan bases when Swift surprisingly dropped a UK-exclusive digital version of her album 'The Tortured Poets Department.' This was in direct competition with the release of Charli XCX's album 'Brat' and had many wondering if it was going to steer Charli from topping the UK Official Charts.
There were also rumors that the Charli XCX song entitled 'Sympathy is a Knife' from the album 'Brat' was about Swift. Subsequently, Charli XCX explained that 'Sympathy is a Knife' was inspired by a girl who "taps my insecurities."
These tensions also brew from her engagement to The 1975's drummer, George Daniel, while Swift had earlier dated Matty Healy of the same band, The 1975.
