Hrithik Roshan's latest film, 'Fighter,' directed by Siddharth Anand, emerged as the highest-grossing film of the weekend at the global box office, raking in an impressive $25.1 million in box office revenues. The movie, also starring Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, centers around the Indian Air Force and was strategically released on January 25, ahead of Republic Day, a public holiday in India.
Despite its success, 'Fighter' faced challenges as it was banned in the Middle East due to its portrayal of Indian conflicts with Pakistan, where there is a significant Pakistani migrant worker population. The film released in 23 territories and achieved a $24.5 million worldwide weekend, with $20.8 million earned internationally, excluding North America. The cumulative global collections, including Thursday numbers, reached $25.1 million, according to ComScore data.
Breaking down the performance, 'Fighter' garnered $3.7 million in North America over the three-day weekend and $4.3 million over four days. In India, the film achieved a substantial collection of $17.7 million over four days.
Securing the second spot globally was Columbia Pictures' romantic comedy 'Anyone But You,' with a weekend box office of $19 million. The film has accumulated $127 million worldwide after its sixth weekend, with $71.1 million from North America.
In third place was Amazon MGM's action-thriller 'The Beekeeper,' starring Jason Statham, earning $18.3 million and boasting a worldwide cumulative box office of $104 million, including $42.2 million from North America after three weekends.
Warner Brothers' 'Wonka,' recounting the chocolatier origin story and featuring Timothee Chalamet, took the fourth position with $13.7 million. After seven weekends, the film has grossed $552 million worldwide, including $195.1 million in North America.
Closing out the top five was Searchlight's offbeat comedy 'Poor Things,' a double Golden Globe winner, distributed internationally by Disney. The film collected $13.04 million, amassing $51 million worldwide after its eighth weekend, including $24.7 million in North America.
