Asha Bhosle's musical journey began at the tender age of 10, and now at 90, she claims she can effortlessly deliver 18 songs in one go. This remarkable feat is set to unfold at her upcoming concert on March 9, marking her 90th birthday celebration.
In a recent press conference, the iconic singer expressed her unwavering passion for singing, attributing her lifelong dedication to the art form to circumstances that led her into professional singing.
"Singing is my passion. I've been singing since childhood, but circumstances propelled me into professional singing, and I'm grateful for the recognition and fame it brought me," Bhosle shared.
Maintaining her vocal prowess, she explained, is akin to nurturing one's physical well-being. Despite her age, she continues to practice diligently, not for others but for her own joy and fulfillment.
"I don't sing for others; I sing because I love it. Whether on stage or off, singing has been my constant companion for 80 years," she remarked.
Bhosle's illustrious career spans over 12,000 songs across multiple languages, ranging from upbeat tracks like "Piya Tu Ab To Aaja" to soul-stirring melodies like "Dil Cheez Kya Hai" and classical renditions such as "Tora Man Darpan Kehlaye."
As she gears up for her Mumbai concert, Bhosle feels deeply connected to the city where she found her footing in the industry. Reflecting on her humble beginnings and the journey to stardom, she expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her fans.
"Mumbai is my city. It has witnessed my struggles and triumphs. Now, with my family by my side, I am honored to perform for my fellow Mumbaikars," she shared.
Amidst her preparations for the concert, Bhosle fondly remembered ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas, expressing sorrow over his recent demise. She also expressed excitement about performing alongside her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, at the upcoming show, describing it as a cherished opportunity to share the stage with family while paying homage to her late husband, music composer RD Burman, by humming a few lines from the timeless classic "Kuch Toh Log Kahenge."
