An Indian Oscar-winning composer, A R Rahman, is going to perform live in concert for Kamala Harris' momentous and historic candidacy for President of the United States. Organised by the Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Victory Fund, the event was announced on Friday and will feature Rahman's music streamed live to homes all over.
AAPI Victory Fund, a political action committee focused on mobilizing Asian American and Pacific Islander voters, has formally endorsed US Vice President Harris in the election ahead. In a social media post, the organization announced the concert with an invitation to fans to join renowned composer Aadesh Shrivastava as they celebrate this milestone in Indian-American political representation.
"A very special evening with A R Rahman. Join A R Rahman to celebrate the historic candidacy of Kamala Harris for President with a world-class live music concert streamed straight to your home," the announcement read.
Although the date for the concert hasn't been confirmed yet, those wanting to attend can receive updates through the social media platforms of the AAPI Victory Fund. Rahman hasn't posted yet about this event on his official accounts but is hugely popular for his score in *Slumdog Millionaire* as well as many other Indian and international cinema.
This is another high-profile endorsement for Kamala Harris, who, at every point in the campaign, has enjoyed support from big artists and celebrities. From pop icons like Beyonce, who took a very impactful role in Harris' campaign and even let her adopt the hit song "Freedom" as hers to use for campaign purposes, and other singers like Carole King and Taylor Swift, Hollywood's biggest names have thrown their support behind the vice president.
Important to note here is that Rahman is an Indian citizen and has no affiliation with the politics of US. However, Rahman's participation does reveal Harris' global fame and the significance of her candidacy in the Indian-American community.
One such group is AAPI Victory Fund, which originally hosted a Democratic Presidential Forum for the AAPI community in 2019. It has been a strong backer of Kamala Harris since the onset of her candidature. Besides the presidential election, it is also backing AAPI candidates vying for Congress or other statewide offices. The live concert featuring the music maestro A R Rahman is likely to give a boost to the group's voter outreach into the November 5 election.
Kamala Harris has received immense support from Hollywood. Such celebrity endorsers of Harris include Jennifer Lawrence, Finneas, Billie Eilish, George Clooney, and Barbra Streisand. Pop star Megan Thee Stallion even performed at one of Harris' early fundraising events.
