Valparaiso University Offers Assistance to Family of Attacked Indian Student for US Travel

The victim, Varun Raj Pucha, a 24-year-old student majoring in computing and information sciences at Valparaiso University, is currently in a critical condition after a 24-year-old man assaulted him with a knife at a public gym.

Valparaiso University, located in Indiana, USA, has expressed profound shock and sadness in response to the recent attack on one of its students from Telangana, offering unwavering support to the victim's family during this challenging time.

The victim, Varun Raj Pucha, a 24-year-old student majoring in computing and information sciences at Valparaiso University, is currently in a critical condition after a 24-year-old man assaulted him with a knife at a public gym.

Following the incident, Valparaiso University President Jose Padilla released a statement, saying, "We are shocked and saddened by the attack on Varun Raj Pucha. At Valparaiso University, we consider each other family, and this incident is horrifying for us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his friends and family."

The university is actively cooperating with the police in their investigations and is extending all possible assistance to facilitate the prompt arrival of Varun's family in the United States.

Michael Fenton, the University's Director of Communications, added, "In addition to our thoughts and prayers, the University and Valpo Community are offering all assistance and resources available to help Varun’s family get to the United States as quickly as possible."

At Valparaiso University, Varun was known for his politeness and dedication to his academic and professional goals. George Pati, the head of Varun's program, commented, "Varun has always been a very conscious student, grateful for the opportunity to study in the United States, and focused on achieving his academic and professional goals. Varun is known to be polite and earnest in how he approaches his relationships with fellow students, faculty, and staff within the department of computing and information sciences."

The incident took place at Planet Fitness, where Varun was attacked with a knife by Jordan Andrade, who reportedly expressed unfounded fears that Varun was "creepy" and "threatening." Andrade is currently in custody at the Porter County Jail, facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery.

To support Varun and his family during this challenging time, a GoFundMe page has been established by the North America Telugu Society (NATS) to raise funds for medical expenses and travel costs. NATS is actively working to provide essential assistance to the family during this crisis.
