The exam is held for admission into undergraduate engineering programmes like - BE/B.Tech — at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and certain institutions or universities recognised by some state governments. When a candidate qualifies for JEE Mains, she/he is eligible to sit for JEE (Advanced), gateway entrance test for admission to the IITs. The number of attempts for JEE Main were increased from 1 to 2 in 2019. In 2021, it was further increased to 4 due to the disruptions caused by the pandemic.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to announce the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2022 Session-1 by July 10, a senior official told 'The Indian Express'. Once released, candidates can check their results on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

“We are almost ready and the result will be out this week,” the official said. The JEE Main 2022 exam was held in a CBT(computer-based test) format  from June 23 to June 29, at over 500 centres across the country and abroad.

The final merit list was prepared based on the candidate’s best score out of all her attempts. However, as things are returning to normalcy, the NTA restored the 2 attempt format this year.

According to the NTA, 9.39 lakh candidates appeared in all the 4 sessions of JEE Main held in  February, March, July, August and September, in 2021.

On Saturday, the NTA released the JEE Main 2022 answer key and is now expected to announce the results soon.

The second session of JEE (Main) will be conducted from July 21 to July 30.
