Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, on Thursday, declared a compensation amount of ₹1 crore to the families of each person who died in the tragic Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad.
As part of the assistance, the Tata Group will also bear all medical costs of the survivors of the accident, ensuring they get full treatment and requisite support.
No words can ever describe the sadness we feel at the moment. Our prayers and thoughts are with those families who lost their loved ones, and with those who have been hurt," Chandrasekaran said in an official statement. He added that, as part of the group's overall support process, a new hostel would be built at B.J. Medical College.

Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, also spoke with deep regret regarding the tragic incident, respecting the immense agony it has unleashed. "This tragic incident has caused unparalleled misery to many families, and our hearts go out to all who have lost their loved ones today," he said.

The accident involved Air India Flight 171, flying from Ahmedabad to London. The aircraft was carrying 242 people, including ten cabin crew members, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The DGCA added that the aircraft took off from Runway 23 at 1:39 p.m. and after takeoff, a MAYDAY distress signal was sent to Air Traffic Control but was followed by no further communication.
The plane crashed barely outside the airport boundary and was immediately covered in dense, black smoke. The aircraft was flown by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, and First Officer Clive Kundar was co-pilot.
