Sandeep Kataria becomes first-ever Indian BATA global CEO

Kataria, who is an engineering graduate from IIT-Delhi and a gold medalist of the 1993 PGDPM batch of XLRI Jamshedpur, joined Bata India as CEO in 2017.

Sandeep Kataria, 49, who is currently Bata India's CEO and will now move up to take the position for global CEO of the company, becoming the first Indian ever to do so in 126 years, reported the Economic Times on Tuesday.

Current incumbent, Alexis Nasard, is set to step down from the role after 5 years to join Kantar.

Kataria, who is an engineering graduate from IIT-Delhi and a gold medalist of the 1993 PGDPM batch of XLRI Jamshedpur, joined Bata India as CEO in 2017. He also holds 24 years of marketing and sales experience at Unilever, Yum! Brands, KFC, Pizza Hut in India and Europe. Before joining Bata, he was the chief commercial officer at Vodafone India. 

Under Kataria's leadership, the profits of Bata India doubled driven by a two-digit growth and the company reported a net profit of Rs 327 crore in 2019-20.

By taking up this role, Kataria joins the league of the likes of Indians including Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Sundar Pichai of Google, Ajay Banga of MasterCard, and Arvind Krishna of IBM helming global organisations on the world front.
