Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the remarkable achievements of Amul on Thursday, urging the iconic dairy brand to aspire for global leadership.
Addressing a gathering of milk producers from Gujarat at Motera Stadium, the Prime Minister outlined ambitious plans to double the milk processing capacity within the next five years. He commended Amul as the world's eighth largest dairy, lauding its reputation for trust, collaboration, and farmer empowerment.
PM Modi emphasized Amul's pivotal role in meeting India's nutritional requirements and advancing the vision of an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India). With a vision to propel Amul to global prominence, he pledged unwavering governmental support, offering a "Modi guarantee" to facilitate this endeavor.
The event also marked the inauguration of several significant dairy projects across Gujarat, signaling a significant stride in the sector's infrastructure. These included the launch of an automatic UHT plant at Amul Dairy Anand, expansions of paneer and chocolate plants, the establishment of cheese and whey powder manufacturing plants at Sabar Dairy, an ice-cream production facility at Sarhad Dairy, and the unveiling of a processing plant at Dudhdhara Dairy in Navi Mumbai. Furthermore, the Rajkot Dairy Development Project was initiated.
Expressing gratitude to the cattle keepers for their pivotal role in Amul's success, PM Modi hailed the cooperative model that has empowered small cattle keepers to undertake substantial endeavors. He recalled the pioneering efforts of Sardar Patel in laying the foundation for Amul and the Gujarat Milk Marketing Federation, setting a precedent for future generations.
Highlighting India's status as the world's largest milk producer, PM Modi underscored the sector's significant growth, with an annual dairy turnover of Rs 10 lakh crore. He underscored the crucial contribution of women, who form 70 percent of the dairy sector workforce, not only to the economy but also to women's empowerment nationwide.
As India grapples with the challenges of a burgeoning population, PM Modi underscored the dairy sector's vital role in meeting nutritional needs. He praised the collective commitment of milk producers to enhance processing capabilities, ensuring sustained growth and prosperity in the sector.
