Union Minister Piyush Goyal clarified on Saturday that there is currently no government proposal to lift export restrictions on wheat, rice, and sugar. He further emphasized that India has no plans to import wheat and sugar.
Addressing reporters, Goyal stated, "There is no proposal as of now to remove export restrictions on wheat, rice, and sugar. And India will not import wheat and sugar."
In response to escalating domestic prices, India implemented various measures, including the ban on wheat exports in May 2022, restrictions on non-basmati rice exports starting July 2023, and the extension of curbs on sugar exports beyond October 2023. The government's actions are aimed at managing and stabilizing the prices of these essential commodities within the country.
