Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani dethrone Chinese billionaires to become Asia’s richest businesspersons

Reliance Industries chairperson Mukesh Ambani’s cumulative wealth sored over $84 billion, out of which $7.62 billion have been added in 2021 so far, according to data from Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Meanwhile, Adani Group founder Gautam Adani’s wealth increased to $77 billion, out of which $43.2 billion have been added in 2021 so far.

India’s two biggest business tycoons Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani zoomed past Chinese billionaires Jack Ma and Zhong Shanshan in global wealth ranking, making them Asia’s richest businesspersons.

Meanwhile, Adani Group founder Gautam Adani’s wealth increased to $77 billion, out of which $43.2 billion have been added in 2021 so far.

The huge increase in Ambani and Adani’s net wealth has made them the 12th and 14th richest person in the world, respectively.

Both of them received a huge boost from stock markets as the NIFTY50 index has jumped up by 13 per cent in 2021 so far. The positive effect of the share market translated into a 12 per cent rise of Reliance Industries stocks which are currently priced at Rs 2,215.80 year-to-date, whereas Reliance Industrial Infrastructure (RIIL) and Network 18 Media & Investments have surged between 40 and 45 per cent.

On the other hand, Adani Group companies have received an even bigger surge in stock prices. Adani Total Gas has rallied 335 per cent to Rs 1,625.8 on June 11 to Rs 374.9 on January 1, 2021. Adani Transmission has soared 264 per cent and Adani Enterprises has advanced 235 per cent in 2021. Adani Power is also up by 200 per cent, followed by Adani Ports (74 per cent) and Adani Green (17 per cent), the Economic Times reported.

Zhong Shanshan, the founder of the Nongfu Spring beverage company and owner of Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy, is the richest Chinese on the list. His wealth has decreased from $7 billion in 2021 to $71.2 billion.

Tencent founder and CEO Ma Huateng (21st), Alibaba's Jack Ma (27th), founder of ByteDance Zhang Yiming (32nd) and e-commerce mogul Colin Huang (33rd) are other Chinese entrepreneurs featuring on the Bloomberg list.

Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos is the wealthiest person, with a net worth of $194 billion. He is followed by LVMH Chief Executive Bernard Arnault, having riches worth S173 billion. With a fortune of over $169 billion, Tesla's boss Elon Musk is third on the list.
