Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a fruitful discussion with his British counterpart, Rishi Sunak, on Tuesday, marking significant progress in ongoing negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) between the two nations.
During their telephonic exchange, both leaders reiterated their commitment to bolstering the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, as highlighted in an official statement.
In a social media update, Modi expressed satisfaction with the dialogue, stating, "Had a productive conversation with PM @RishiSunak. We are dedicated to further enhancing the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and striving for the prompt conclusion of a mutually advantageous Free Trade Agreement." The statement emphasized the leaders' contentment with advancements made under the "Roadmap 2030" initiative across various domains such as trade, investment, defence, security, and emerging technologies.
The statement further noted, "They acknowledged the positive strides towards the early finalization of a mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement."
Additionally, the leaders exchanged insights on regional and global developments of shared interest, agreeing to maintain communication and extending warm wishes for the forthcoming festive occasion of Holi, according to the statement.
