IndiGo has announced resuming its operations from Terminal 1 (T1) at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), Delhi, from September 2, 2024. The big announcement comes after T1 reopened its gates, which remained closed for a couple of months following an incident of the fall of the canopy early this year.
The terminal's closure saw it advance into an extensive renovation under the Delhi International Airport Limited's Phase 3A expansion project.
With the reopening of T1, IndiGo will operate 35 daily departures from the said terminal. The airline has reshuffled its operations: flights numbered 2000-2999 continue from Terminal 2, flights numbered 5000-5999 operate from Terminal 3, and all other flights now move to T1.
Refurbished Terminal 1 has modern facilities in order to make the passenger journey smoother and more convenient. A Mobile Check-in Service has been initiated to reduce queueing at the check-in counters. An Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) has been installed with a view to keeping the security screening process swift.
The terminal is also now better connected with Delhi's transport network, featuring easy access to the Delhi Metro's Magenta Line, regular services of Delhi Transport Corporation-DTC buses, and a shuttle service connecting T1 with Terminals 2 and 3.
Reopening T1 and the resumption of operations by IndiGo will mark a crucial step in optimizing passenger flow at IGI Airport. The transition is part of the broader effort being undertaken by DIAL to accommodate the increasing passenger numbers and positioning the airport as "Future Ready".
