Indian Railways Achieves Landmark Revenue of Rs 2.4 Lakh Crore in Fiscal Year 2023-24

As of March 15 in the fiscal year 2023-24, the cumulative revenue of Indian Railways has reached Rs 2.40 lakh crores, marking an increase of Rs 17,000 crore compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, which recorded Rs 2.23 lakh crores.

India Railways has surpassed the milestone of 1500 million tonnes in freight loading and has garnered an unprecedented total revenue of Rs 2.4 lakh crore thus far in the ongoing fiscal year, as per official data unveiled on Friday.

As of March 15 in the fiscal year 2023-24, the cumulative revenue of Indian Railways has reached Rs 2.40 lakh crores, marking an increase of Rs 17,000 crore compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, which recorded Rs 2.23 lakh crores.

The overall expenditure of Indian Railways in the fiscal year 2023-24 has amounted to Rs 2.26 lakh crores.

The Ministry of Railways affirmed, "Indian Railways is set to achieve its most remarkable performance in recorded history concerning freight business output, total revenue, and track laying in the financial year 2023-24."

The total count of passengers traveling on India Railways during 2023-24 stands at 648 crores, reflecting a surge of 52 crores in comparison to the figures from the same period of the preceding year, where the total number of passengers stood at 596 crores.

Previously, Indian Railways had attained its highest-ever freight loading of 1512 million tonnes during the fiscal year 2022-23.

Additionally, Indian Railways has accomplished the laying of 5100 km of new tracks in the current financial year as of March 15, translating to a daily average exceeding 14 km per day.
