If Bangladesh can excel in readymade garment exports, why can't India, Says Yogi Adityanath

Adityanath noted that though Bangladesh, with a population of 160 million, has done well in readymade garment exports, India, with 1.4 billion people, has not been able to do so as yet. He emphasized the huge potential of India in developing a global brand in textiles, particularly in the readymade garment industry.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posed a pertinent question on Saturday, questioning why India, with its huge population, is behind Bangladesh in the readymade garment export industry. He was speaking at an investor meet for setting up a textile park under the PM MITRA scheme.

Adityanath noted that though Bangladesh, with a population of 160 million, has done well in readymade garment exports, India, with 1.4 billion people, has not been able to do so as yet. He emphasized the huge potential of India in developing a global brand in textiles, particularly in the readymade garment industry.

"There are huge opportunities in readymade apparel. We can map the world market and touch worldwide success," he stated, citing the untapped potential of the industry.

The Chief Minister laid stress on the need for guidance and opportunities for India's huge workforce. "There is a huge population waiting to work, but there ought to be someone to guide them," he added.

Adityanath also emphasized Uttar Pradesh as a major consumer market. "The largest consumer market is Uttar Pradesh, and it is here," he declared, adding that the state does not only suffice for its own people but also caters to areas such as Nepal, Bhutan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand.

In addition, he emphasized developing full-service facilities in the PM MITRA Park that would involve sewing, dyeing, printing, packaging, and designing to serve the needs of the international market.
