The final Communique at the G7 Summit renewed a commitment to increased momentum to practical infrastructural works, like the IMEC, while the Prime Minister was in attendance there at the invitation of the host Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni. Joining the leaders from Borgo Egnazia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi committed to a "free and open Indo-Pacific" underpinned by rule of law in a fresh endorsement.
Identification of key initiatives from the Communique are to "promulgate G7 PGII, including flagship projects for economic corridors by means of solid infrastructure and investment." These include the development of improved coordination and financing for corridors such as the Lobito, Luzon, Middle, and the most important one, that of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. They are building on those types of initiatives like the EU Global Gateway, Great Green Wall Initiative, and Mattei Plan for Africa of Italy.
The "game-changing" IMEC will look to connect Saudi Arabia, India, the US, and Europe with arei mammoth network of roads, railways, and sea routes to bind together Asia, the Middle East, and the West. Strategically, it is viewed as a collaborative effort of like-minded countries to be an effective counterbalance to the Chinese BRI, which, apart from other things, has been criticized for its lack of transparency and disregard for national sovereignty.
Other commitments as highlighted in the Communique included greater interoperability in AI governance between G7 members to promote innovation with transparency and accountability. The summitEqually reaffirmed unwavering support for Ukraine in conflict with Russia, spelling out plans that would offer about USD 50 billion, under the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration Loans, which captures future revenues from Russian sovereign assets that immobilized.
At the meeting attended by Pope Francis along with the leaders from Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, India, Jordan, Kenya, Mauritania, Tunisia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, critical topics such as energy, Africa, and also the Mediterranean featured; issues that dealt with the need to work with each other in the problems facing the world.
