Fuel Prices Surge in Karnataka: Petrol Up by Rs 3/Litre, Diesel by Rs 3.50

The Congress-led government in the state has raised, this Saturday, the retail sales tax on fuels and petrol prices today went up by Rs 3 while diesel by Rs 3.50 in the state.

The new prices came into effect from Saturday noon, catching the vehicle owners unawares. The notification was issued by Nithish. K., Joint Secretary of the Finance Department of the Government of Karnataka.

Petrol tax was increased by 3.9 percent from 25.92 percent to 29.84 percent. Diesel tax was raised by 4.1 percent from 14.34 percent to 18.44 percent.

As a result, the petrol price in Bengaluru has gone from the previous 99.84 per litre to 102.84 per litre. In the case of diesel, it has risen from 85.93 per litres to 89.43 per litre. The hike will be more pronounced in rural areas because of additional distance-related costs.

This development comes in wake of a series of meetings chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after the lifting of the Model Code of Conduct, MCC, post-general election, in a bid to generate additional revenue for the State.
