Elon Musk racing ahead of Jeff Bezos to become world's richest

As of Wednesday, Musk's net worth stands at $181.1 billion, as a 2.8% rally in the electric carmaker's share price boosted him to within $3 billion of Bezos, said the report. Chief Executive Officer of SpaceX, Musk is also known to be a rival to Bezos, owner of Blue Origin LLC in the private sector race. 

The mastermind behind Tesla Inc. and Space X, Elon Musk is almost closing on the title of the richest person on the planet, reported NDTV on Thursday.  Musk is eyeing the spot by replacing Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, who has held the title since 2017. 

As of Wednesday, Musk's net worth stands at $181.1 billion, as a 2.8% rally in the electric carmaker's share price boosted him to within $3 billion of Bezos, said the report. The milestone can be credited to the spectacular 13 months Elon has had as over the past year his net worth soared by more than $150 billion in one of the fastest episodes of wealth creation in history. To top that, Tesla's share price surged a whopping 743% last year owing to consistent profits and enthusiasm from investors. 

Merely a week since the beginning of new year and Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranking has been shuffling up, as China's Zhong Shanshan left past Warren Buffett to claim the sixth slot after shares of his bottled-water company surged, adding $15.2 billion to his fortune. And now, it seems that the biggest upending of rankings is pending soon, as the topmost position witnessed a remarkable change.
