In the lead-up to Diwali in Delhi, the liquor sales surge demonstrated remarkable growth, exceeding 37% compared to the same period last year, as per official figures from the Excise Department.
Last year, a substantial 2.26 crore bottles were sold in the fortnight preceding Diwali, but this year witnessed an even more impressive figure of 2.58 crore bottles in the last 15 days.
Noteworthy spikes in daily sales were observed, with 14.25 lakh bottles on November 6 escalating to 17.27 lakh on November 7 and 17.33 lakh on November 8.
For the corresponding three days before Diwali in the previous year, the figures stood at 13.46 lakh, 15 lakh, and 19.39 lakh bottles.
The cumulative average over the two weeks preceding Diwali last year was 12.56 lakh bottles, and this year's corresponding period has already hit 17.21 lakh bottles, marking a substantial surge of over 37%.
As Thursday, Friday, and Saturday sales data are pending, the overall impact on this year's Diwali liquor sales is yet to be fully realized.
These statistics suggest a significant upturn in consumer demand and engagement with liquor during the festive season.
