55.02 Crore Jan-Dhan Accounts Opened, 36.63 Crore in Rural and Semi-Urban Areas: Centre

Till March 7, as many as 55.02 crore Jan-Dhan accounts have been opened, out of which 36.63 crore accounts are in rural and semi-urban regions, the government reported on Tuesday.

The financial inclusion efforts of the government, such as the Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Stand Up India Scheme, and other connected schemes, have also witnessed significant growth.

The Atal Pension Yojana, meant to provide a monthly pension to the subscribers, registered 7.49 crore enrollments by the reported date.

In the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), up to February 28, 52.07 crore loans amounting to Rs 33.19 lakh crore have been sanctioned since the launch of the scheme.

The Stand Up India Scheme (SUPI) has sanctioned 2.67 lakh loans worth Rs 60,504 crore as of March 7, since the commencement of the scheme.

The government initiated the National Mission for Financial Inclusion (NMFI), which encompasses the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), in August 2014 with the objective of extending universal banking services to all unbanked adults. The mission is founded on four fundamental principles: banking the unbanked, securing the unsecured, funding the unfunded, and reaching unserved and underserved areas.

PMSBY is a personal accident insurance plan that provides coverage of Rs 2 lakh in case of death or permanent total disability, and Rs 1 lakh in case of permanent partial disability, at a low premium of Rs 20 per year. The policy can be renewed every year.

Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), an annual renewable life insurance scheme, offers cover of Rs 2 lakh for death due to any reason at a premium of Rs 436 annually. Till March 7, 2025, cumulative enrollment under PMJJBY is 23.21 crore.

The Atal Pension Yojana, designed to offer a fixed pension to subscribers aged between 18 and 40 who are not covered under any organized pension scheme, assures pensions of Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000, Rs 3,000, Rs 4,000, or Rs 5,000 per month when the subscriber turns 60 years old, based on the subscriber's contribution.
