Triumph Motorcycles India has launched a new product, the Thruxton 400, from ₹2.74 lakh ex-showroom.
The Thruxton 400 marks the first-ever café racer for the brand, built on the 400cc platform and is the fifth bike in Triumph's fast-growing India portfolio - following Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, and the Speed T4.
Whereas it takes a few styling cues from the Speed 400, the Thruxton 400 introduces some distinct features of its own that set it apart cleanly in the range.
From the first glance, the Thruxton 400 cuts an aggressive profile with its semi-fairing bodywork that runs from the headlamp down to the lower point of the fuel tank, lending it a muscular, athletic appearance. Even with the fuel tank's aerodynamic shape, the bike has presence and a sense of volume. Still holding on to a clear neo-retro identity, the motorcycle carries a vintage round headlight with added integral LED DRLs, whereas the rear boasts a fresh sculpted shape for the tail lamp. Pillion seat can also be replaced with an elegant rear cowl by the riders.
To keep its cafe racer credentials intact, Triumph has equipped the Thruxton 400 with clip-on handlebars and a front windscreen as a styling flourish. The addition of bar-end mirrors goes along with the low-handlebar design, and repositioned footpegs provide a sporty, forward-leaning riding position. The bike can be bought in four aggressive dual-tone colors:

Pearl Metallic White & Storm Grey
Metallic Racing Yellow & Aluminum Silver
Phantom Black & Aluminum Silver
Designed to offer a more concentrated riding experience, the Thruxton 400 features upside-down (USD) telescopic forks up front, providing slightly longer travel than on the Speed 400. Toward the back, a mono-shock takes care of suspension responsibilities. Braking is done by disc brakes at both ends, aided by dual-channel ABS. The bike is shod on 17-inch alloy wheels, further enhancing its sporty character.
Instrumentation features a semi-digital console and an analogue tachometer—similar to what is seen on the Speed 400. The Thruxton 400 has a marginally shorter wheelbase of 1,376 mm (10 mm shorter) and lower ground clearance of 158 mm (lower by 7 mm) compared to the Speed 400.
Beneath the tank, the Thruxton 400 contains a 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine—in effect the same engine used in the Speed 400, but redesigned for this model.
The engine is now tuned to slightly different levels, producing 42 hp of maximum power and 37 Nm of maximum torque. This is mated to a six-speed gearbox, with a slipper clutch to ensure smoother downshifting and improved control.
