On Sunday, Nissan said that it would be launching a new seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in India by the last quarter of its 2025-26 financial year, and a five-seater compact sports utility vehicle in the last quarter of the 2026-27 financial year.
As part of its plan to revamp its Indian product portfolio, Nissan had already announced plans for the seven-seat B-MPV and two sub-compact SUVs in both five- and seven-seat forms, along with its existing products, the Magnite and X-TRAIL.
We are dedicated only to SUVs. These cars will have Japanese DNA and will be equipped with cutting-edge Nissan technologies," said Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India. "Let me be specific about the timing: the B-MPV seven-seater will come in the last quarter of this fiscal, and the five-seater C-SUV will follow at the end of the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal.
Vatsa further added that the launch date for the seven-seater compact SUV would be announced later.
The new cars will be produced at Nissan's joint-venture facility in Chennai. The company is also developing an affordable electric vehicle dedicated to the Indian market, which is set to arrive in the 2026-27 fiscal year.
Alongside new product offerings, Nissan aims to increase its footprint in India. "As of now, we have 282 touch points, including 159 showrooms and 123 workshops. We are looking at adding this by around 35-40 new touch points during the current financial year and another 50 next year," Vatsa revealed in a media briefing. It has around 46-47 touch points in Eastern India alone.
Nissan India has also proposed an aggressive goal for its plan for 2025-26, planning to triple domestic sales and exports equally, with a target of 1 lakh units each annually. In the 2024-25 financial year, Nissan posted over 28,000 units in local sales, driven by the launch of the new Magnite in October 2024. On the export front, the company increased its market coverage from 20 to 65 countries, with a stunning 71,000 units in sales.
When questioned about increasing competition in India's MPV and SUV segments, Vatsa highlighted the uniqueness of Nissan's new models. "These cars are different in appearance, are designed differently, and offer a different driving experience," he stated. "Though these segments are extremely competitive, we have entered them because we are sure of the ability of our products, which have been researched and strategized with a great deal of care."
