A bench of Justices K.M. Joseph and B.V. Nagarathna will hear a plea filed by Bilkis Bano and also pleas filed by several political and civil rights activists, against the release of 11 convicts. Earlier this week, Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud had agreed to constitute a new bench to hear the batch of pleas. In January this year, the top court had said the question of maintainability of petitions, filed by various activists.

Advocate Shobha Gupta, representing Bano, mentioned the matter for urgent hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud. The bench, also comprising Justices P.S. Narasimha and J.B. Pardiwala, assured Gupta that a new bench will be formed to hear the case. The Chief Justice said, "I will have a bench constituted. We need to break two benches for it. We will look at this in the evening."
Railways lowers fare of AC-3 tier economy ticket
