Delhi HC upholds ban on gutka, pan masala for public health reasons

The ban was initially imposed by the food safety commissioner, but was later quashed by the high court in September 2022. The Centre and Delhi governments appealed against the decision and a bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma has now set aside the earlier decision and upheld the ban.
SC to hear plea for arrangement of ablution at Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi

Senior advocate Huzefa Ahmadi mentioned the matter on behalf of Muslim side before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud. The bench told Ahmadi that this is a procedural issue. The counsel requested the court to hear the matter on Monday and said "the water for wuzu is being used for a drum. There are more worshippers due to Ramazan."
Country's tiger population rises to 3,167 in 2022 from 2,967 in 2018

The census showed that there has been a steady rise in the number of big cats. As per the census statistics, the number of tigers in the country has increased to 3,167 in 2022 from 2,967 in 2018.In 2006, there were 1,411 tigers in the country; in 2010 census 1,706; and in 2014 census 2,226. Modi maintained that the number of tigers has increased by 75 per cent in the last 10 years.
Body of missing 2-year-old found in suitcase in neighbour's house

No mechanism available to deactivate Aadhaar of deceased persons: Govt

"At present, there is no mechanism to receive the Aadhaar of deceased persons from the registrars appointed by state governments and to deactivate them," a source in the ministry for electronics and IT said. However, the Registrar General of India had sought suggestions of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on draft amendments to the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, regarding capturing of Aadhaar of a deceased person while issuing the death certificate, for its subsequent deactivation.
Karnataka HC rejects plea seeking Indian citizenship for two minors born to Pakistani father

The law of attaining 21 years of age to denounce the citizenship of Pakistan has become a roadblock for attaining Indian citizenship for the two minors, who are presently living with their separated mother in Bengaluru. The court ruling came on Wednesday.In 2002, Ameena Rahil from Bengaluru had married Pakistani national Assad Mallik in Dubai, where they had settled down. However, in 2014, the couple got divorced in a court in Dubai, which gave the custody of the two children to Ameena.
Seven states reporting high number of Covid cases

The state health ministers were advised to personally monitor and review the preparedness of all logistics and infrastructure, including availability of sufficient designated hospital beds, besides ensuring that there is adequate stock of essential medicines. The states were also asked to regularly update their Covid data on the designated Portal.
