Zelensky Calls Prospects of Partial Ceasefire with Russia a 'Positive Outcome'

In a video briefing after a phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelensky pointed out that Ukraine welcomes any suggestions that might open the door to a lasting and equitable peace deal.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that a partial ceasefire with Russia would be a good thing and might lead Ukraine closer to ending the ongoing conflict. This was said as reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

In a video briefing after a phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelensky pointed out that Ukraine welcomes any suggestions that might open the door to a lasting and equitable peace deal.

He highlighted his eagerness to hear more about the conversation between Trump and Putin and share the information with Ukraine's allies.

"Russia and Ukraine – these are the two parties here in this war. If we do not include Ukraine, then I think the deal will be pointless," said Zelensky.

Both Russia and Ukraine have confirmed planning a prisoner swap according to the "175 for 175" model, described after Trump-Putin talks.

Referring to Ukraine's military actions in Russia's western Kursk province, Zelensky said that Ukrainian troops are still present in the region and will keep operating as long as necessary for the nation's goals.

Earlier on Wednesday, the White House had announced that Trump and Putin agreed that efforts toward peace in Ukraine would start with a ceasefire to energy and infrastructure, as well as technical negotiations for a Black Sea maritime ceasefire, eventually progressing to a full ceasefire and durable peace.
