Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has thrown some potshots at French President Emmanuel Macron for suggesting that supplies of arms to Israel be stopped. In a recent radio interview, Macron said all civilized nations should unite against supplying weapons to Israel for its operations in Gaza. Netanyahu, speaking in a video address, strongly retorted that Israel is fighting against the forces of "barbarism led by Iran" and that Israel would win, whatever the outcome of Western support.
Netanyahu said he is disappointed that Western leaders, led by France's Macron, are calling for an arms embargo on Israel, while Iran has a delirious schedule of arms supplies to different groups, including Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Hamas. Well, what's the logic of the embargo then? The terror axis remains united and continues with its work undeterred, he lamented.
Indeed, the Israeli prime minister said that the IDF already had to rip up a considerable part of Hezbollah's arsenal vis-a-vis its missiles and tunnels across the Lebanese border. He noted that though the threat is far from neutralized, Israel has basically shifted the scale of war decidedly in its favor. Escalated hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah have seen airstrikes on a daily basis since late September, causing massive civilian casualties and displacement within Lebanon. These incidents mark an upsurge in tensions following Hezbollah launching rockets into Israel on October 2023 in support of Hamas, which brought an unprecedented response from the IDF.
