Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the United States on Monday for ongoing support during Ukraine's conflict with Russia.
Speaking in a video message posted on X, Zelensky highlighted America's role in Ukraine's struggle, saying, "Of course, we know how important America is, and we thank all the support we have received from the United States."
His comments came a day after a tense White House meeting two days prior, in which US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused him of not expressing enough appreciation towards the US and for refusing to accept the conditions they had put forward for a ceasefire.
Rebutting such allegations, Zelensky pointed to the support Ukraine has been receiving from European allies.
Thanks to these days, we have evident support from Europe. Even greater unity, even greater willingness to cooperate," he declared, reaffirming Ukraine's determination to pursue peace, not an endless war. He also emphasized the need for "real security guarantees" for sustainable stability.
Everyone is in consensus on the main point, in order for there to be peace, there have to be real security guarantees. And this is the stance of all of Europe, the whole continent. The United Kingdom, the European Union, Turkey," he continued.
Zelensky also paid tribute to the strength of the Ukrainian people and the crucial importance of international cooperation in protecting Ukraine's sovereignty.
There has not been a single day when we haven't felt thankful. It's thanks for the defense of our independence, our strength in Ukraine relies on what our partners do for us, and for their own safety," he said.
His video address followed after he had attended a critical summit in London, where leaders such as UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni came together to address the current war.
The summit was an act of global solidarity since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia commenced in 2022.
