A U.S. federal appeals court upheld on Thursday President Donald Trump's ability to keep tariffs in place temporarily, citing emergency powers, pending ongoing legal proceedings.

The Washington Federal Circuit Court of Appeals has granted a Trump legal team emergency motion, claiming that removing the tariffs could compromise national security.

Trump is currently facing several lawsuits claiming that his 'Liberation Day' tariffs are beyond the power of his jurisdiction.

One day earlier, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of International Trade ruled that Trump had abused the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The judges said the president had inappropriately used a national emergency declaration to support across-the-board tariffs on imports from almost all nations. The ruling inflicted a serious blow on Trump's pugilistic trade policy, which has sent markets into a whirlwind of volatility.

But the temporary stay granted by the appeals court to the lower court decision was greeted by White House trade advisor Peter Navarro. In an interview with reporters Thursday, Navarro said, "I can assure you, American people, that the Trump tariff agenda is alive, well, healthy, and will be implemented to protect you, to save your jobs and your factories."

Despite the temporary relief, the White House remains wary that the appeals court could eventually strike down the policy. Officials emphasized their intent to take the fight to the Supreme Court, defending the legality of Trump's trade moves. They also signaled that, if necessary, Trump could pursue similar tariff measures under different legal frameworks.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, "Other nations of the world has faith in Donald Trump.they probably also see how absurd this ruling is.we are going to win, we have submitted an emergency appeal, and we anticipate combating this war all the way in Supreme Court."

She went on to say, "America can't operate if President Trump — or any president, for that matter — has his sensitive diplomatic or trade negotiations derailed by activist judges. Finally, the Supreme Court needs to end this for the sake of our Constitution and our nation.
