Volodymyr Zelensky Addresses Uncertainty Over Duration of Russia-Ukraine Conflict

During his annual press conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed uncertainty about the duration of Russia's ongoing conflict against Ukraine, stating that the timeline remains unknown.

"The answer eludes us all. Even esteemed figures, our commanders, and our allies in the West, who suggest a prolonged war, cannot pinpoint the conclusion," remarked Zelensky during Tuesday night's press conference.

Highlighting Ukraine's accomplishments in the conflict this year, Zelensky emphasized a significant triumph in the Black Sea, as per reports from the Xinhua news agency.

"Both at home and abroad, it's evident that Russia's dominance in the Ukrainian Black Sea has been notably curtailed," asserted Zelensky, stressing that Russia fell short of its objectives this year.

Discussing Ukraine's defensive strategies, Zelensky acknowledged challenges stemming from limited control over airspace and insufficient ammunition, impacting military operations in the southern regions.

Addressing proposals to bolster Ukraine's defense forces, Zelensky revealed suggestions from military leaders to mobilize an additional 450,000-500,000 soldiers for defense and potential counteroffensive actions, pending official approval.

Regarding potential NATO membership for Ukraine, Zelensky indicated that current circumstances pose risks, signaling the exclusion of this option. He clarified the absence of official proposals for "partial accession" to the alliance.

In efforts to fortify Ukraine's defense capabilities, Zelensky announced forthcoming acquisitions of Patriot air defense systems and National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems from partner nations. Additionally, plans are underway to manufacture approximately 1 million drones in the coming year.
