US Envoy Garcetti Highlights 'Multiplicative' Nature of India-US Relationship

“This (India-US) is a relationship that isn't just additive. It's not just the US plus India. It's multiplicative. It's the United States times India,” Garcetti said at the meeting held in the suburbs of Washington.

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti hailed the strong relationship shared between India and the United States, touting it as transformative in nature. While addressing the  USA Investment Summit, he noted that this partnership was not additive but multiplicative in nature—numbers that symbolize a synergy: "It's the United States times India."

“This (India-US) is a relationship that isn't just additive. It's not just the US plus India. It's multiplicative. It's the United States times India,” Garcetti said at the meeting held in the suburbs of Washington.

He pointed to the unprecedented closeness of the two countries and trumpeted how much people of Indian descent contribute towards the economy in the United States. Garcetti also lauded investments that India has made in the United States, noting JSW Steel's commitment to a USD 140 million investment in Baytown, Texas, right after the summit.

“We are so excited that JSW Steel is announcing a USD 140 million investment in America, in Baytown, Texas. JSW is one of the largest Indian investors in the United States, investing more than USD 2 billion here in this country, in Texas and Ohio. They have seen tremendous return on their investment,” Garcetti commented.

He went on to highlight the growing two-way investment trend between the countries by pointing at collaborations in infrastructure, energy, and climate solutions. Garcetti's remarks mirrored the strengthening bilateral ties in the aftermath of high-level visits and prevailing commitments to further strengthen the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

“While the story used to be about American companies going to India to invest, which we still do,... increasingly we're seeing this two-way street, a bridge in the Indo-pacific coming from India into the United States, savings steel mills, looking at mines that have been shut down, investing in electrolytes for electric vehicles of the future, the services, the health care,” Garcetti said.
