Since their incursion into the Kursk region on August 6, Ukrainian armed forces have managed to capture over 100 localities on the territory of Russia, the Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief said.
The situation is being reported by Syrsky to develop in favor of the Ukrainian military, who are actively inflicting colossal damage on the enemy both in personnel and equipment. The news came from Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.
In another report from Xinhua, Syrsky said that Russia was redeploying about 30,000 soldiers to the Kursk region, this being the beginning of the creation of a "defensive ring" around the Ukrainian troops.
In turn, Russia's Defence Ministry reported that due to reconnaissance and an offensive operation, Akhmat's special forces seized one position of strategic importance at the Sudzha district of the Kursk region, which used to be controlled by Ukraine. According to TASS, it is situated 400-500 meters from the forward positions of the AFU and provides an overview of the positions enabling the Russian military to monitor further actions of the latter.
Syrsky also added that the aim of the Ukrainian operation in Kursk is to create a buffer zone which will prevent Ukrainian Sumy from artillery. In light of this, it was added that the Ukrainian troops were able to capture up to 594 Russian soldiers in the course of this advance.
Syrsky also noted that Russia is trying to make up for the advance of Ukraine by pulling troops from elsewhere. However, he pointed out that the troops are not being pulled out from the Pokrovsk front in the East of Donetsk, where the Russians are facing a tough fight.
The Kursk offensive started in the night of August 5-6 as Ukrainians went in out of the Sudzha town, about 10 km from the border.
Russian President Vladimir Putin justified this move by calling the raid a "large-scale provocation" and "a terrorist attack" besides saying Kyiv was indulging in indiscriminate shooting. Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed it was a deliberate "operation" aimed at the creation of a "buffer zone" to protect against Russian assaults.
