Former US President Donald Trump revealed that the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, sent him a very moving message upon learning about the former president's attempted assassination during a campaign rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The 78-year-old Trump claimed he narrowly dodged out of the way in time as the bullet whizzed an inch past his ear. He added that he also received some encouraging notes from other world leaders but did not identify who they were.
He spoke at the rally to pontificate on his relationship with world leaders, stating how much most of them disagreed with his policies but put a call to check on him. He highlighted good ties with Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, touting his diplomacy in the face of numerous points of contention with both leaders, including trade tariffs on Chinese exports and criticisms over handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trump said that he would keep up strict economic and trade policies toward China that he had supported throughout his presidency. He complimented Xi Jinping as a strong leader who holds on to a firm hand against a large population and admired his strategic mind.
Looking to the future, Trump appealed to American manufacturing by vowing for policies of high value-add on domestic production and job generation. He promised to take away China's status as a Most Favored Nation trading partner in order to underline his commitment to recalibrating trade relations in America's interest.
Trump was quite very assertive in the speech over global issues and reiterated his commitment to dealing with firmness if voted back to power.
