President-elect Donald Trump has named Indian-American entrepreneur Sriram Krishnan as the Senior White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence. "Sriram Krishnan will serve as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy," Trump announced on Sunday, alongside a series of appointments focused on AI advancements.
Krishnan is one of the most successful venture capitalists and authors who can boast of working with other giants like Twitter, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), Facebook (NASDAQ:META), Yahoo!, and Snap.
He will directly work with David Sacks as Sacks has been designated White House AI & Crypto Czar.
"Working closely with David Sacks, Sriram will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in AI and help shape and coordinate AI policy across government, including working with the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Sriram started his career at Microsoft as a founding member of Windows Azure," Trump highlighted.
Post announcement, Krishnan thanked people on X, saying, "Honoured to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI by working closely with David Sacks."
Krishnan's appointment has been largely welcomed by the Indian-American community, who have appreciated Krishnan's contributions to technology and his leadership.
Born and raised in Chennai, India Krishnan immigrated to the United States after completing graduation. A seasoned tech leader he is also a venture capitalist, podcaster and author.
He co hosted a podcast called The Aarthi and Sriram show, centered on various themes revolving around startups, with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy.
Krishnan joined Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a general partner in February 2021. He later led the firm's London office in 2013. However, He exited the firm in late November.
In 2022, Krishnan worked with Elon Musk to restructure Twitter after Musk acquired the platform.
He has also been credited to re-introduce former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson with Elon Musk after the latter was nominated to the proposed Department of Government Efficiency.
