It's Donald Trump's first move since declaring victory in the US presidential election. Susie Wiles, head of his campaign team, has been appointed Chief of Staff. As such, she becomes the first woman to enter one of the most influential positions at the country's top cabinet post, heading the White House's executive office.

"Really a winner campaign manager," Trump said of Susie. "It's a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in U.S. history."

This is the first appointment that Trump has announced for his administration as his transition team helps him find people to fill jobs.

This chief of staff is generally playing more of a gatekeeper role for the President and as a liaison to Congress and government departments and agencies and also helping steer policy decisions.

"She just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history," Trump said of Wiles' role in his campaign.

Vice President-elect JD Vance weighed in on X: "This is great news. Susie was a huge asset to President Trump on the campaign and will be a huge asset in the White House."

During his final term, Trump lost four Chiefs of Staff, one of whom was retired Army General John Kelly, who betrayed him.
He described Trump as a "fascist" and voted for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Wiles, 67, spent parts of some of her years working for President Ronald Reagan's campaign when she was a lowly scheduler.
She worked her way up through the ranks of the campaign staff after working for several politicians and governor's campaigns before running Trump's 2016 campaign in Florida.

She was named head of the Save America Political Action Committee, his fundraising organization as he began to move toward the White House again, in 2022.
