Tragedy struck across two Texas cities, Austin and San Antonio, on Tuesday, leaving six people dead and three injured, including two police officers. The grim incident unfolded with a series of homicides and shootings.
In San Antonio, a residence near the 6400 block of Port Royal Street became a somber scene where a man and a woman in their 50s were discovered lifeless. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar revealed that authorities suspect the couple fell victim to the violence before the subsequent shootings in Austin on the same fateful day.
The Austin Police Department informed Bexar County officials that the perpetrator behind the Austin shooting spree had ties to the Port Royal Street residence. Identified as Shane James, a 34-year-old male, Austin officials believe he is responsible for both the Austin incidents and the double homicide in San Antonio. However, the precise connection between James and the crime scene in San Antonio remains undisclosed, according to reports from the Austin American-Statesman.
Residents in the Port Royal Street cul-de-sac expressed shock at the tragedy. Neighbors described the victims, a quiet middle-aged couple, as people who kept to themselves, rarely venturing outside except when walking their dog around the neighborhood. The community was known for its tranquility, with no apparent signs of disturbance until Bexar County detectives knocked on doors late Tuesday night.
Michelle Coan, a longtime resident of Port Royal Street, reflected on the sense of loss, emphasizing the couple's normalcy and peaceful existence in the cul-de-sac. Recalling the days when she saw the male victim and his son playing basketball, she characterized them as "beyond normal." Coan, who frequently exchanged pleasantries with the victims during their dog walks, expressed a poignant feeling of missing the familiar sight of the couple and the comforting knowledge that they were at home.
