Tragic Discovery: Indian Student Reported Missing Found Deceased in US

Mohammed Abdul Arfath, a native of Hyderabad, had traveled to the United States in May 2023 to pursue a master's degree in IT at Cleveland University. However, he had been reported missing since March 7 of this year.

The Consulate General of India in New York has confirmed the tragic news of the demise of Mohammed Abdul Arfath, an Indian student who had been missing since March, in the state of Ohio, USA. Expressing deep sorrow, the consulate assured that they are coordinating closely with local authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Mohammed Abdul Arfath, a native of Hyderabad, had traveled to the United States in May 2023 to pursue a Master's degree in IT at Cleveland University. However, he had been reported missing since March 7 of this year.

The distressing situation took a darker turn when Arfath's family received a call from an unidentified individual, claiming that Arfath had been abducted and demanding a ransom of USD 1200 for his release.

Despite concerted efforts by the Consulate General of India in New York and local law enforcement agencies to locate him, Arfath's fate remained uncertain until his unfortunate discovery in Cleveland, Ohio.

In response to the heartbreaking news, the consulate expressed its deepest condolences to Arfath's family and assured them of all possible assistance in repatriating his mortal remains to India.

This tragic incident adds to a series of recent misfortunes befalling the Indian community abroad. Just last week, Uma Satya Sai Gadde, another Indian student in Cleveland, Ohio, lost her life under mysterious circumstances, prompting ongoing police investigations.

Additionally, earlier this February, an Indian student faced a brutal attack in Chicago, further highlighting the challenges and vulnerabilities faced by members of the Indian diaspora abroad. The Indian Consulate in Chicago has been actively engaged in providing support to the victim, Syed Mazahir Ali, and his family during this difficult time.
