'This is what an actual attack on democracy looks like': Vivek Ramaswamy comes out in support of Donald Trump, pledges to withdraw from Colorado primary

In a significant setback for Trump, the Colorado Supreme Court disqualified the former president from the ballot due to his involvement in the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021.

Vivek Ramaswamy has stepped forward to express his support for Donald Trump following the Colorado court's decision to exclude the former US president. In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he committed to removing himself from the GOP primary ballot in Colorado.

In a significant setback for Trump, the Colorado Supreme Court disqualified the former president from the ballot due to his involvement in the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021. Accusing him of 'insurrection,' the apex court said that Trump spread false claims of election fraud and directed supporters to the Capitol. Colorado has thus become the inaugural state to bar Trump from seeking the presidency based on his role in the Capitol attack.

Expressing his unsolicited support, Vivek shared a video, stating, "I pledge to withdraw from the Colorado GOP primary ballot until Trump is also allowed to be on the ballot." He further called out other presidential candidates, urging Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, and Nikki Haley to follow suit immediately. Failing to do so, he argued, would imply their tacit endorsement of an illegal maneuver with potentially disastrous consequences for the country.

The US Constitution's insurrection clause prohibits individuals engaged in insurrection from holding any office under the United States after swearing to "support" the Constitution as an "officer of the United States." The Colorado Supreme Court concluded that this clause applies to the office of the president.

Ramaswamy's post emphasized, "This is what an actual attack on democracy looks like: in an un-American, unconstitutional, and unprecedented decision, a cabal of Democrat judges are barring Trump from the ballot in Colorado. Having tried every trick in the book to eliminate President Trump from running in this election, the bipartisan Establishment is now deploying a new tactic to bar him from ever holding office again: the 14th Amendment."
