Nahid said the declaration of the framework of the interim government was in an advanced stage as the situation was too urgent to wait. "We have decided that the head advisor of the interim government will be Dr Muhammad Yunus, the internationally renowned Nobel laureate with broad based support," Nahid told a packed news conference flanked by two other coordinators.

The announcement came after President Mohammed Shahabuddin announced following the dissolution of parliament, an interim government would be formed.
The president announced this through an address on late-night television and further announced the release of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who was convicted in large numbers of cases and was under house arrest.

"We" called upon the President to immediately constitute the interim government under the leadership of Dr. Yunus, and he further added that some other members of the interim government would be declared soon.

Condemning the continuing violence, Nahid attributed the situation to ousted fascists and their supporters trying to blockade the revolutionary process. He said the president had to take prompt, decisive actions to restore order and security, followed by the student activists supporting the law enforcement agencies.

"To us students, only the government that will be formed as per the will proposed by the students is acceptable," said Nahid, a student leader, who crossed out any administration led by the military or fascists.

Chaos swept through Bangladesh today after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and secretly fled the country on a military airplane. The Army took control after it was made known that Hasina had left. Hundreds stormed her residence, looting and vandalizing properties. The anti-government unrest, which has claimed over 300 lives in the last fortnight, has also engulfed Hasina's residence, Sudha Sadan, and several other properties of her Awami League government in Dhaka and elsewhere.
