Shehbaz Sharif Makes History as the Only Pakistani Politician Re-elected as Prime Minister

Amid protests by lawmakers from the opposition SIC, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq announced Shehbaz Sharif's victory, revealing that he had garnered 201 votes while his opponent, Omar Ayub Khan, received 92 votes.

Shehbaz Sharif, the President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), assumed the role of Prime Minister for the second time on Sunday, securing 201 votes in the National Assembly and officially becoming the 24th Prime Minister of the country.

Amid protests by lawmakers from the opposition SIC, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq announced Shehbaz Sharif's victory, revealing that he had garnered 201 votes while his opponent, Omar Ayub Khan, received 92 votes.

Following the announcement, Shehbaz Sharif, who is now the only politician to serve as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms, was invited by the Speaker to occupy the prime minister's seat and deliver his inaugural address to the house, as reported by The News.

In his first speech as Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by party leaders, expressed his gratitude to PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif for nominating him for the prestigious position and thanked his allies for their unwavering support.

While refraining from mentioning names, Shehbaz Sharif indirectly criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for allegedly targeting the opposition and acting against the national interests by making serious accusations against the armed forces.

He recalled the unrest that ensued on May 9th following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan in a corruption case, mentioning attacks on state institutions, including the GHQ and Corps Commander Houses.
