In 2023, Russian paratroopers have significantly bolstered their military capabilities with the acquisition of over 2,500 pieces of military and special equipment, according to media reports.
The Russia Defense Ministry disclosed that formations and military units within the Airborne Troops received more than 780 new and advanced pieces of military and special equipment during the year. Among the notable additions to the troops' arsenal are cutting-edge heavy weapons, including the state-of-the-art T-90M tank, BMD-4M paratrooper combat vehicles, and BTR-MDM and BTR-82A armored personnel carriers.
The comprehensive report highlights that, in total, the Airborne Troops were reinforced with more than 2,500 units of weapons and military equipment in 2023. To further enhance their combat capabilities, units within the Airborne Troops are slated to receive Uragan and Grad Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), Solntsepek heavy flamethrower systems, T-72 B3M tanks, modernized Nona-S and Vena self-propelled mortar systems, along with improved 120 mm Sani heavy mortar systems.
This significant augmentation underscores Russia's commitment to strengthening its airborne forces and ensuring they are equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry and technology. The ongoing modernization efforts are aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness and readiness of the Airborne Troops in various strategic scenarios.
