Russia will stop moratorium on strike weapons if US deploys missiles in Germany, warns Putin

During a ceremony at Russia's annual Navy Day in St. Petersburg on Sunday, Putin stated, "If the US implements such plans, we will consider giving up the previously assumed unilateral moratorium on the deployment of medium and short-range strike weapons, including increasing the capabilities of the coastal troops of our Navy."

President Vladimir Putin has announced that Russia will respond with appropriate countermeasures if the United States proceeds with the deployment of long-range weapons in Germany.

This came after the US announced earlier this month that it would establish periodic deployments of long-range weapons in Germany from 2026 to strengthen its commitment to NATO and Europe.

Putin added that such missiles could be fitted with nuclear warheads and reach targets in Russian territory within 10 minutes, according to Xinhua news agency.

"We will take corresponding measures to deploy them, taking into account the moves by the United States and its allies in Europe and other regions of the world," Putin remarked.

He drew attention to the fact that Russia continues the buildup of its naval forces with surface, underwater, and naval air forces and their equipping with new-generation and hypersonic missile systems.
