President Vladimir Putin addressed Russia's Military-Industrial Commission on Wednesday, announcing enormous progress in the country's defense industry, particularly since the war in Ukraine commenced.
Russia's ordnance production, as well as communications, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare systems, he added, had grown by more than two-fold. He further emphasized the provision of over 4,000 armored vehicles and 180 combat helicopters and planes to the troops.
Putin emphasized the importance of drones in modern warfare, and revealed that over 1.5 million drones of all types had been supplied to the front lines, including 4,000 FPV drones with virtual reality control systems. Despite this massive supply, he acknowledged that there is still a lack of drones, especially for front-line troops, and stressed that efforts are being made to bridge the gap. Production of these units was said to be crucial to a battlefield victory.
The president outlined the commission agenda, which involved discussing the development of Russia's Armed Forces in the future as well as the defense production potential. He assured that providing soldiers, especially those involved in ongoing hostilities, with necessary hardware and combat tools is a matter of priority. In addition, Putin added that Russia's defense industry was performing well, shipping contracted weapon systems within the proposed timeframe or ahead of schedule.
Putin also referred to the experience that the Russian army has gained from the ongoing special military operation in Ukraine, saying that leading world defense manufacturers and technology firms are learning from Russia's experience in both military tactics and weapon technology development. He concluded his remarks by saying Russia must remain superior in technological breakthroughs and strategies of warfare, as it had done in the last few years, to retain its competitive edge in the worldwide defense industry.
