On Friday, a bipartisan group of American lawmakers announced the formation of a QUAD Caucus in the US Congress. The announcement came a day ahead of the commencement of the four-nation Summit. US President Joe Biden has invited leaders from Australia, India, and Japan for the QUAD summit at his home in Wilmington, Delaware. The Quad leaders have indicated that they will leverage the opportunity of the Summit to discuss the major initiatives on infrastructure, maritime security, public-private partnership, climate, health, critical and emerging technologies, and space.
This was made public by Congressman Ami Bera, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Indo-Pacific Subcommittee, Congressman Rob Wittman, Senators Tammy Duckworth and Pete Ricketts, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
"With the Indo-Pacific region increasingly vital to both global security and economic prosperity, the United States must maintain efforts to deepen its alliances with our Quad partners," Bera said. "By creating the Quad Caucus, we express our shared commitment to strengthen peace, stability, and development in the region. We can then secure a safer, more prosperous future for all if cooperation is fostered in these areas and more, including but not limited to maritime security, infrastructure, and climate change.".
Key cooperation for the future stability of the Indo-Pacific is the United States, Japan, India, and Australia, said Wittman. "The Quad's support for the governance of emerging technologies, countering illegal fishing, and enhanced maritime domain awareness proves that we will build a better future for the region by working together, so all the things that we did can pay off in terms of some kind of results.".
It stated that QUAD demonstrated the strength to unite as allies and partners for common principles. "In a strong show of bipartisan support for the region, I'm proud to help launch the Senate's first-ever Quad Caucus alongside Co-Chair Senator Ricketts ahead of President Biden's leaders' summit this weekend," he said.
Senator Ricketts termed partnerships such as the Quad the greatest strength of America in protecting an prosperous, free and open Indo-Pacific. "We are committed to finding tangible ways to bolster collaboration with our Quad partners," he said.
