In a tit-for-tat measure, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an order allowing the confiscation of US properties in response to the threats of the United States to confiscate the Russian assets.
The order provides for the Russia Central Bank and other home organizations to file a suit in courts in case US properties are confiscated illegally, according to the news agency Xinhua.
A dedicated commission under the Russian government will be tasked with identifying US assets and properties within Russia, spanning both movable and immovable properties, securities, shares in Russian enterprises, and property rights that could be utilized to offset any resulting losses.
To facilitate the decree's implementation, the government has been allotted a four-month period to propose amendments to Russian legislation.
