President Raisi Advocates Firm Enforcement of Headscarf Regulations in Iran

Since the onset of the new Persian year on March 20, authorities, including police and moral guardians, have intensified their efforts to crack down on violations related to headscarves.

Incidents captured in videos circulated on social media depict instances of confrontations between women and moral authorities during these enforcement operations.

The tragic death of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian Kurdish woman, while in police custody in September 2022 ignited widespread protests across the nation against the Islamic regime and its enforcement of dress codes.

Amini was apprehended by moral authorities due to an alleged violation related to her headscarf. Subsequently, she passed away at the police station a few days later, reportedly due to injuries sustained from police violence.

In solidarity with Amini, an increasing number of Iranian women have chosen to defy the mandatory wearing of the headscarf.

Even within Islamic circles in Iran, there has been criticism directed towards the stringent enforcement measures. Critics argue that true piety and devotion cannot be achieved through coercive tactics and violence against women.
