President Announces $3.5 Billion Investment in Indonesia's New Capital City

In a cabinet meeting, the first one to be held in Nusantara, broadcast live on the official online channel, Widodo said that this is of investments received to date for the new capital. This amount does not include state funds for the construction of government offices and other public facilities.

President Joko Widodo announced on Monday that Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara, has so far collected investments amounting to 56.2 trillion rupiahs, nearly 3.5 billion US dollars.

According to Xinhua news agency, 55 investors have already started developing business facilities in banking, health, retail, energy, hospitality, logistics, and housing, amongst others.

He was joined by businessman and president-elect Prabowo Subianto, who is set to take office in October, but the former military general says he is optimistic about the future: "I am optimistic that in four to five years this city will run even more effectively as the capital of the nation.
