The Pakistan government has conceded before the Islamabad High Court that Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) is a foreign territory.
Pakistan's Additional Attorney General said that Kashmiri poet and journalist Ahmed Farhad Shah is being kept in police custody in PoK. Shah cannot be brought before the Islamabad High Court because PoK falls outside the legal jurisdiction of Pakistan.
This came out during the course of the hearing of the petition submitted by Shah's wife after his abduction by Pakistan's intelligence agencies from his Rawalpindi house. Shah was missing for two weeks and the ISI filed two cases against him, which have now come to light.
The Islamabad High Court asked how the Pakistani military and Rangers could operate in PoK if it were really a foreign territory and not part of Pakistan.
During the course of the proceedings, High Court Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani lambasted Pakistan's intelligence agencies for perpetuating the forced abductions of people.
