Hindu Canadian Foundation (HCF) has given its warm approval of the current diplomatic breakthrough between India and Canada, which came in the wake of a major bilateral encounter between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the G7 summit.
In a statement posted on X, HCF termed the negotiations as "a step towards a brighter future, grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and a shared vision for world progress," emphasizing the long-standing connections between the two countries.
"Canada and India share a deep connection, based on common democratic values, rich cultural exchanges, and dynamic economic partnerships," the foundation underscored.
The post also commended PM Carney's leadership and his unwavering commitment to national interest: "With PM Mark Carney at the helm, Canada is taking a bold and pragmatic 'Canada First' strategy. His unshakeable commitment to putting our country first is reassuring, making sure our policies and alliances represent what's best for Canadians."
HCF also expressed its endorsement of PM Carney's position against outside forces intruding on Canada's harmony. The foundation mentioned that his 'Canada First' strategy resists "the influence of extremist groups attempting to bring foreign conflicts into the country's peaceful and inclusive society." It called on Canadians to remain united in their quest for advancement and international cooperation.
The top-level talk between Modi and Carney occurred on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, as both leaders sought to redefine relations that had been recent sources of tension.
In a formal statement, the Office of the Canadian Prime Minister said, "PM Carney and PM Modi reaffirmed the significance of Canada-India relations, founded on respect for one another, the rule of law, and a commitment to the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity. They agreed to appoint new high commissioners, with a view to returning to normal services to citizens and business of both nations."
The conversation allegedly touched on common historical ties, collaboration in the Indo-Pacific, and extensive trade relations. "They talked about strong and historic links between our peoples, partnerships in the Indo-Pacific, and substantial commercial relations between Canada and India – including partnerships in economic growth, supply chains, and energy transformation," read the statement.
India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri called the meeting "very positive and constructive," reporting that the two leaders concurred on a series of "calibrated steps" to usher new stability to their bilateral relations.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada have just concluded a very positive and constructive meeting on the margins of the G7 summit here in Kananaskis in Canada," Misri stated.
After the conversation, PM Modi went to X to thank him: "Had a great meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney. Congratulated him and the Canadian Government on hosting the G7 Summit successfully. India and Canada are united in a firm faith in democracy, freedom and rule of law. PM Carney and I look forward to close cooperation to give impetus to the India-Canada relationship.". Spaces such as trade, energy, space, clean energy, critical minerals, fertilisers and so on have huge potential in this context.
